A cover letter stating the specific internship of interest, the specific dates of the internship and your motivations.

Iowa NORML will be offering the following internships for Spring 2014:

 

Outreach Coordinator Internship

 

The Outreach coordinator intern will assist the board of Iowa NORML by connecting with members and other activists in the state of Iowa who want to be active in Iowa NORML or are interested in starting a new chapter. The intern will also attend weekly meetings with the internship coordinator and assist with special projects. This will require a minimum commitment of 13-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a friendly and motivated individual who possesses strong written and verbal communications skills, has the ability to work without supervision and remain organized.

 

Treasurer Internship

 

The Treasurer internship position for Iowa NORML will assist with the finances of the state chapter. This includes tracking membership and private donations, grant seeking and reconciliation and preparing reports.  The Treasurer intern will also attend weekly meetings and assist the board with special projects. This will require a minimum commitment of 12-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a friendly, motivated individual who possesses strong mathematical and organizational skills with an understanding of finance and the ability to work without supervision.

 

Treasurer’s Assistant Intern

 

The Treasurer’s assist internship for Iowa NORML will assist the Treasurer oversees the finances of the chapter and assist with special projects. The assistant to the treasurer will also assist with grant seeking, reconciliation and be required to attend weekly meetings. This will require a minimum time commitment 10-12 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a friendly, motivated individual who possesses strong mathematical and organizational skills with an understanding of finance and the ability to work without supervision.

 

Communications Director Internship

 

The Communications Director Internship for Iowa NORML will be in charge of overseeing all online social media accounts. Also, the Communications Director will check all official communications and assist the Executive Director and Deputy Director prepare for all media appearances. The Communications Director will also be in charge of all press releases, newspaper articles and op-eds. They will be required to attend weekly meetings. This will require a minimum commitment of 15-18 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated and intelligent individual who possesses consummate written and verbal communications skills. They must be able to work independently and oversee other projects.

 

Content Development Intern

 

The Content Development Intern for Iowa NORML will be tasked with developing content for both web pages and official Iowa NORML materials e.g., handouts and brochures. This intern will also be required to attend weekly meetings with board members and coordinate with the Communications Director, Secretary and Web Development intern. This internship will require a minimum of 10-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual with developed written communications skills, can focus on multiple projects at once and remain organized and meet strict deadlines.

 

Web Development Intern

 

The Web Development Intern for Iowa NORML will be tasked with developing the Iowa NORML website and other forms and online petitions. This intern must also be able to meet strict deadlines and attend weekly meetings with board members and the Communications Director.  This internship will require a minimum commitment of 10-12 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual with excellent computer programming and communications skills. The intern must also have the ability to work independently and remain organized.

 

Secretary Internship

 

The Secretary Internship for Iowa NORML will be in charge of keeping a membership list and reporting the annual membership roster to the National NORML chapter. In addition, the Secretary must also collect news clips, videos and articles and send them to the National chapter. Further, the Secretary must attend weekly meetings and assist the board with special projects. This will require a minimum commitment of 15-18 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills who can work independently and remain organized while overseeing multiple projects.

Materials Design Intern

 

The Materials Design Intern for Iowa NORML will work directly with the Secretary and communications team to design official materials, posters, t-shirts and other items. This individual must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and/or other graphics software. The intern will also be required to attend weekly meetings with the board and Secretary. This will require a minimum commitment of 12-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated, creative individual with excellent design skills and the ability to meet strict project deadlines. This individual must also be organized and able to work as part of a team.

 

*This internship requires submission of a portfolio instead of a writing sample.

 

Historian Intern

 

The Historian Intern for Iowa NORML will be tasked with finding and gathering emerging research on the health impacts of the use and methods of use of marijuana. The intern will also assist the board with special projects and is required to attend weekly meetings. This requires a minimum time commitment of 12-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual with excellent research and analysis skills. This individual must also be able to work independently, remain organized, meet strict project deadlines and be able to work as part of a team.

 

Legislation Tracking Intern

 

The Legislation Tracking Intern for Iowa NORML will be working as part of a team tasked with Iowa NORML’s political activities in the state. Specifically, this intern will need to track and summarize specific pieces of legislation for the team in addition to helping with special projects and attending lobbying trips to the capitol. This intern will be required to attend biweekly meetings and assist with special projects. The internship will require a minimum commitment of 15-18 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual with excellent interpersonal communications and research and analysis skills. This individual must also have good creative, problem solving skills and be able to work as part of a team.

 

Lobbying Intern

 

The Lobbying Intern for Iowa NORML will be working as a part of a team tasked with Iowa NORML’s political activities in the state. Specifically, this intern will work with the team to examine different committees varying legislation may face, the points of contention within the committees and identify specific legislators to approach during lobbying excursions. The intern must also attend biweekly meetings and assist with special projects. This internship will require a minimum commitment of 15-18 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a motivated individual who has developed interpersonal communications skills, maintains excellent problem solving skills and understands the political landscape of Iowa. This individual must also remain organized and be able to work as part of a team.

 

Legislative Drafting Internships

 

The Legislative Drafting Interns will be working as part of a team tasked with Iowa NORML’s political activities in the state. Specifically, this intern will work with the team to develop specific legislation to be considered in the Iowa General Assembly. This intern must attend biweekly meetings and assist with special projects. This internship will require a minimum commitment of 13-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking two motivated individuals with excellent writing skills and an understanding of law and politics. These individuals must also be able to meet strict project deadlines, remain organized and work as part of a team.

 

Awareness Intern

 

The Awareness Intern will be working as part of a team tasked with Iowa NORML’s political activities in the state. Specifically, the intern will be working on special projects to raise awareness about marijuana and address misinformation and myths surrounding marijuana. This intern must attend biweekly meetings and assist the board with special projects. The internship will require a minimum commitment of 13-15 hours/week.

 

Iowa NORML is seeking a creative, motivated individual with excellent interpersonal communications skills and an understanding of mass marketing/advertising. This individual must also be able to remain organized, meet strict project deadlines and work as a part of a team.
