Is Wille Nelson being made for a fool?
Earlier this year, Willie Nelson was asked to sing a song in court in order to avoid going to jail for marijuana charges. Now, the judge wants to “uphold the law…” and is being opposed by the prosecution!
SIERRA BLANCA, Texas, July 9 (UPI) — A judge in Texas rejected a plea bargain this week that would have spared country music icon Willie Nelson a jail term for possession of marijuana.
Judge Becky Dean-Walker said she believed Hudspeth County Attorney Kit Bramblett, who arranged the agreement, was treating a celebrity too lightly, KVIA-TV in El Paso reported. Under the plea bargain, Nelson would have paid a $500 fine for possession of drug paraphernalia, but the judge wanted him to do jail time.
“To me, it’s wrong” she said. “I think that he should be charged with something that shows drugs were involved.”
Yes, yes…Willie’s a bad man, judge! He had non-alcoholic drugs on him, don’tchaknow…and to her, “it’s wrong.” Good job judge…drugs are bad, mmmk?
This judge reminds me of the chief priests that shouted down Pilate’s voice of reason:
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go. And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed. And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
Luckily, Willie Nelson has the prosecutor on his side:
The celebrity news Web site TMZ reports that sources say the district attorney now plans to let the case slide until charges are dismissed for failure to prosecute.
Nelson, 73, was charged after Customs agents said they found a few ounces of pot on his tour bus at the Sierra Blanca border crossing.
Hopefully TMZ is right on this, and the court won’t waste their freaking time. Prohibition is now seen by the majority of Americans as nothing but a huge joke…and in this case, Willie Nelson seems to be the punchline. Kangaroo courts are kangaroo courts, no matter if it’s a celebrity, or the minority next door…and in the end, we all become the punchline.
Here’s to you, Willie…
